MARANA – The “South Side Seven” were in critical condition July 20 when the Pima County Sheriff’s Office were called out to a home near Three Points.
Wild Hearts Rescue Ranch said their facility has taken in one donkey and six horses.
Jessica Gray, who runs the rescue ranch said the animals appear to be untrained and neglected. On Monday, Dr. Christine Staten from Adobe Veterinary Center evaluated the animals.
“The numerical average is about five and we want horses to be about four or six in their body conditions, that is perfect,” Staten said. “Some horses came in as a one.”
Guadalupe Ramona Navarro-Aguirre was arrested on July 24. She was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty for failure to provide medical care. The 48-year-old’s court date was set for August 24.
